More than an Ice Cream Farm

For us, cows have always been part of life.

It started long before the ice cream.

Growing up on the farm meant early mornings, muddy boots and helping wherever we were needed.

Cows have always been at the heart of everything we do. There were plenty of laughs growing up, but there was also plenty of hard work.

Farming wasn't just where we lived, it was our way of life.

One holiday that changed everything.

In 2010 Mum and Dad visited a small dairy farm in the Lake District.

The farmer had just ten cows but made enough ice cream during the summer to support the farm through winter.

That single conversation sparked an idea.

Within months we were building our own dairy from scratch.

By May 2011 we were producing our very first tubs of ice cream.

We've never stopped growing!

What started with ice cream has gradually grown into something much bigger.

Today we also produce fresh milk, cream, flavoured milk, yoghurt and butter, while continuing to supply customers across Sussex with the ice cream we're best known for.

Their milk goes into every batch we make, meaning we know exactly where it comes from and exactly how it's produced.

BBC Radio Sussex visited Downsview Farm to make ice cream with us and broadcast a special feature live from the farm.

Late nights are all part of farming life. This is our friend helping Sam bring in the straw. That's what farmers do, they help each other when it matters most.
